Chocolate Pear Cake

Skill required: Advanced beginner 3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup light brown sugar
3 eggs, beaten
1-1/4 cups self-rising flour
2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
2 Tablespoons milk
2 small pears, cored and slicedFor garnish:
chocolate sauce1. Grease an 8-inch pan with a removable bottom.
2. Cut a circle of parchment paper and line the bottom of the pan.
3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
4. Put the butter and brown sugar in a mixing bowl and beat until pale and fluffy.
5. Gradually add the beaten eggs to the mixture, beating after each addition.
6. Sift the flour and cocoa into the butter/egg mixture and fold in gently, until well combined.
7. Stir in the milk and pour the batter into the prepared pan.
8. Level the surface of the cake with an offset spatula or knife.
9. Arrange the pear slices in a circle on top of the cake.
10.Bake for 1 hour or until the cake it just firm to the touch.
11.Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Remove and cool on a rack.
Serve the cake at room temperature, drizzled with some chocolate sauce.
